Three days must do Salina Map
DAY 1: Get in the Island mood
Explore Malfa: walk through the small streets, and get an easy lunch in the square as locals do [1] - you can enjoy some people-watching and island food.
Walk to Punta Scario [2] beach and jump in the water. It is a rocky beach but there are air-floating mattresses you can hire for 10 euros.
Walk up & enjoy the Principe’s pool with its Happy Hour.
Dine in Malfa town (all within walking distance), or stay at Principe. In any case, don’t forget to try Malvasia wine for dessert.
DAY 2: Time to Explore
Jump in your moped in the direction of Santa Marina, you can park [3] before the walking street and stroll around the main road to check out the little town and cute shops. Mind where you park, as they are not shy about giving tickets.
You can walk or drive to Lingua (only 2km) and reach the little town which develops over an esplanade, where you can sit for lunch and enjoy the famous granita & pane unto (get half, it is huge!) at “Da Alfredo” [4].
If you feel for a jump in the sea, next to the lighthouse there are some hidden spots which I love, or if you want more comfort aim for the "Lido Gharb” [5]- a small beach club at the end of the town.
Come back to Principe for a few hours of relaxing before sunset. You can catch the buses or the moped to Pollara, an ancient volcano. The road to Pollara is 3km up + 3 km downhill, you can stop on the top of the hill or you can go down and get a drink in the square while watching the pretty colours of the sunset (I love the top! [6]). You can drive back for dinner at the Principe or you can enjoy one of the restaurants in Pollara.
If you love water, I would suggest using the morning to do a private boat tour of the island (our Receptionists are masters on this), which lasts 3/4 hours, the boat can also stop for lunch in Lingua if you want -and you can keep the same plan for the afternoon/evening.
Let me say, there is no better way to see the island if not by the sea because there are a lot of areas you won’t be able to reach by land - so if you have some extra days it is worth considering both options!
DAY 3: It’s not over yet!
Get to Rinella (by moped if you still have it, or by bus) and enjoy a proper morning granita at “Paperò” a few steps away from the only black sand beach of the island, before it gets crowded. If you have time stop over for lunch or come back to Principe for a quick shower before check out and light lunch by the pool.
If you feel active and your hydrofoil is later in the day, you can consider hiking the Monte Fossa delle Felci [7], starting from Valdichiesa [8] it takes approx 2h to reach the top (bring water!). From there if you have a motorbike you can go for a quick jump in the sea + lunch in Rinella or come back to Principe.
